Granite Accents

These stones were salvaged from a mill in Worcester built during the turn of the century.

All of these stones have been shaped by hand. Squares and rectangles dressed windows and doors trimming out brick work and glass. Each and every stone saw consistent attention until it was installed in the wall.

These stones would be ideal in masonry fireplace or stone veneer.

This has certainly been one of our best projects.

Below you will see the stone wet after cutting. The darkness of the stone can be brought out by using a product called Transeal WB. A waterbased interior grade sealer from UMACO.

Feather and wedge marks dress the edges of the stone.

We were recently commissioned to fabricate a reclaimed granite bench using our Warren Farmhouse stock.

These pieces were quarried locally and installed as a foundation and lintel for a mid 19th century farm.

The evidence of original split marks are still visible along all of the exposed edges.

The New Ipswich Stock is a Green-Stone product!

These pieces of granite were reclaimed from a New Ipswich, NH estate.

This salvaged inventory is ideal for posts, pillars, gates and steps.

I have sold pieces for mailbox's, fence posts, hitching posts and boundary markers.

This stone has beautiful colors from piece to piece.

Browns and beige's, tans and rose are all visible in this granite.

If there's something special you'd like engraved or done to the stone just ask and we'll be glad to discuss the endless options we have!

Most post stock is 80"-86" long.

The widths vary from 8"-13".

Most all edges contain feather and wedge marks from hand splitting the stone during the 17-1800's.

Warren Farmhouse Granite Foundation

We were able to salvage close to sixty feet of hand split granite used in a foundation in a farmhouse.

This granite was tooled to have a perfectly flat exposed face. The horizontal edges of the stone were chiseled flat to site cleanly as the sill and on top of the fieldstone built below.

These pieces need alittle care and restoration to bring them to their full potential but we've already sent out multiple pieces for steps and landings.

We have stock from 3'-9' long .

The Friendship Garden

We were happy to provide our friends at Bancroft School with materials for their memorial garden. Granite was used as benches for children around the edges of the bluestone patio.

This garden was inspired by memories of teacher and friend Jennifer McLaren. The dedication took place Monday, September 22, 2008.

New Inventory

This two piece landing set is ideal for a water front landscape. Five foot square pieces compliment each other with hand chiseled edges and a natural cleft top. The bottoms of each piece are perfectly flat and were once exposed and used as steps going into a church from Boston. With a little TLC the flat sides could be cleaned and used instead. These are two of the largest landings we have in stock.

Here is a set ideal for a large entrance. This landing was salvaged from a farmhouse demolition in Warren, Ma. The step was salvaged from a mill in Worcester. We have an wide selection of granite landings and steps from properties all over New England.

These are three pieces that have been hand worked with a corduroy effect.

They make for an interesting stack of stones.

This feature could be recreated at your home or business.

Here are some photos of the Millyard Estate Posts.

These are hand split granite from reclaimed farm foundations.

We use traditional means of splitting and finishing to provide authentic looking pieces.

The posts pictured below are three of seven 10"x10"x84" pieces. Most all pieces had three weathered faces and one split side.

Two more of the 10" posts mark an entrance way.

These are two smaller 8"x8" posts split to 84" as well.

This gate post is about 6.5' complete with dressed edges. The original iron hardware for the gate is intact. This is just one of our many architecturally salvaged stones.

Grafton School Steps

Our inventory of Grafton School Steps keeps on growing.

We've received two loads of stock and are currently sorting sizes for landscapes all over New England.

Granite Cornerstone

We recently acquired this granite cornerstone. It has great hand tooling and would make a statement in any landscape or masonry project.

We are also picking up a load of Warren Farmshouse Granite which includes two gorgeous granite landings and nearly 100 linear feet of hand split granite foundation.

A big thanks to all of those that continue to follow along and share in our passion for stone.

I never thought we'd hit 10,000 hits in less than a year.

This has been a great trip so far!

Large Granite Landings

These Granite Landings measure 4'x5' and have two great surfaces to work with.

The edges have been rocked and there are square edges to abutt this stone against the house or shed for a one of kind stone.

We've recently cleaned up two of three pieces reclaimed from a buidling demolition.

These pieces of granite came from a granite landing on a chuch.

They measure 48"x 36"x 4".

We've removed any mortars or other debris on the stone.

There are iron shading across some of the stone but this gives it a more natural tone with some unnatural consistnecy. A good mix for any walkway landing.

We have other pieces like the ones shown below and would be happy to help design them into any project.

Millyard Posts in Action!

These are a pair of Millyard Granite Posts.

They were installed by Sugar Rock Landscapes.

They are located in Chester, Vermont.

This was their first order with Stone of New England and they were very satisfied.

We are currently working on two larger Millayard Granite Posts.

Gigantic Granite

These big posts are sold to a lucky couple in Framingham.

The stand 10 and 11 feet in height.

Another sale today that I'm rather, well, sad about.

The Wellstone is SOLD!

Now I need to find another one.

I'll have some more pictures of the Rock Garden tomorrow!

The Rock Garden is slowly growing and will soon be full of exciting and unique stone art , furniture and inventory.

A piece of Railyard Granite makes an interesting marker post.

I am a big fan of balance and perception. Many would stack this stone large side down. I look to create a landscape that provokes thought.

These pieces of Bridge Stock are stacked with a slight arch apparent.

Hand carved birdbaths are being produced using reclaimed granites and limestones.

Garden benches make for a great retreat and relaxing place to spend some quiet time in the woods.

As the Rock Garden takes shape we will photograph each and every piece.

Stone Stacks on the Cold River

We stopped by the Cold River after a trip to MASS MOCA in North Adams.

We had the whole river to ourselves.

These stones still may be standing. Who knows!? That's what's great about stacking stone.

This is on RT 2 and we plan to make another trip soon.

Everyone should stone stack some time in their life.

River banks, beach side, moutain top or in your back yard there's no bad place to stack a few stones.

Brownstone Lintels

A friend of mine salvaged this lintel from a church over thirty years ago.

The heavily cleft faces were rocked by hand.

This lintel would have sat proudly beneath a brick or stone veneer and ornate stained glass.

It meaures 52" long 8" tall and 4" wide.

This is one of six pieces we will have in stock.

This is another example of Green Stone sold exclusively by Stone of New England and its dealers.

Granite Step Sets and Landings

We offer large one piece landings and steps. This piece of material was salvaged from South St in Ware, Ma. Measuring 30"x 72" this stone would be ideal outside a slider or barn door.

Dressed granite foundation stones make for great steps and often offer one finsihed or hammered surface . These stones were salvaged from Rhode Island and are part of the Schoolhouse Stock.

This lot called the Palmer Step Set sold quick and we've since acquired the Grafton School Stock to recreate this popular collection. Let us know the specific measurements and we can quote your project today!

Granite Post Time!!!

With all of the excitement surrounding the Milford Granite Post Stock it is easy to forget about the other great options available from Stone of New England.

We started off splitting posts using our Millyard Granite. This heavily grained material carries two weathered faces and two split edges. The blue, gray and white tones are traditional.

We have a great selection of lengths available from 2'- 10' long. We will split any size granite post assuming we have the stock in inventory. All of our edges are distressed and finished.

Let us know what size Millyard Posts your interested in today! We have split accent, boundary, hitching, fence, lamp and mailbox posts for clients across New England and are currently looking for new customers on the West Coast.

Aside from splitting new posts and finishing off sets of steps, Stone of New England has been actively pursuing new materials . Our search continues to pay off with new additions of brownstone lintels, a local abandoned granite quarry, and the Grafton School Stock.

Other items of interest include Railyard Stock benchs and steps. These are heavily weathered granite blocks with flat surfaces and crisp lichen covered corners.

Talk about falling into my lap!

This granite was salvaged from a school in Grafton, Ma.

It is ideal for edging, flagging, steps or walls.

We'll have it in our yard in the next two weeks!

We've just receieved a load of New England Flats and medium rounds. This heavily weathered stone is ideal for any naturalized landscape or masonry veneer.

We decided to mix things up a bit and go to a different color!

Our Reclaimed Milford Stock is being split into various posts and steps for clients across New England.

The posts pictured above are tan in color and split to the customers requests.

A True Green-Stone

Over the past month we have been working closely with a client trying to find a stone for a large project in up state New York. The stone we are working with is salvaged from a barn in Pennsylvania. The brownstone was carefully dismantled and repackaged ready to be shipped to the right home.

The following pictures show the painstaking efforst of reclaiming these unqiue building materials.
