On the Island
We made our first successful load of stone to Martha's Vineyard.
Large Weathered Slabs for steps where picked from Central Mass specifically for this project.
We had stock ranging in size from 3'x3' up to 3'x8'.
The craftsman behind this order is a true artist and had very high expectations.
We were able to produce exactly what he had in mind.
We are currently packaging Elite New England Fieldstone .

Everything went off without a hitch!
We hope to become regulars on the Island!

New England Elite Fieldstone
This morning we took the 350 into the woods and pulled out a pallet of New England Elite Wallrun.
This pallet is unsorted and a very nice mix of round and flat stone.
We will begin to clear the areas that stone will be salvaged from over the next week.
Here's some pictures!

Deal Makers!
Today was a very exciting day both inside the office and out.
We finalized agreements for the Elite New England Fieldstone, selected the weathered flagging for our Vineyard run and found and bought 100 or so pallets of a beautifully blocky weathered wallstone.
Elite New England Fieldstone is stone sold only by Stone of New England.
It is the premiere in palletized natural stone materials.
We are palletizing boulders, steps, slabs, rounds, thins, garden path and flagging, accents and monuments, veneers and wall run.
There is not limit to what we can do with the amount of stone we have available.
Our first pallets will be built this weekend.
Selecting the Weathered Slabs allowed me to also get a good feel for what would be available in the future.
Large flats provide 8-20 square feet per piece.
On the way home from slab sorting we stop by a clients who was interested in a salvage consultation.
Our client has recently subdivided a large parcel of land and is in the process of clearing land for future development.
Stone walls built by her husband were doomed for destruction.
We proposed removing the stone with as little impact to the area as possible.
She loved the idea and we agreed to remove approximately 100 pallets over the next month or two.
I'll have pictures of this stone up tomorrow. This is a dense grain stone with light tan tones.
It splits very clean and straight.
I noticed alot of larger flagging and steppers.
Stay tuned!

Weathered Slabs- Tagged and Waiting...
We spent part of the afternoon tagging areas where our first load of materials will come from.
Here are some pictures of the stock as it lies on the forest floor.
The weathered edge is covered with moss and lichen.
Large flagging lays under leaves and trees.
Starting off as one large stone and gradually ending up as multiple pieces.

Salvage Time!
On a very rainy day we stacked granite and trudged around in the mud!
We were able to salvage some granite from a Mill in Worcester. This material was used in and around the original mill building. It is now being converted into high end condos.
These radius pieces would be ideal for planters or water gardens.
We have had many customers use curved stock for benches or bridges.
A few of the posts from this salvage have finished details like pointed tops and beveled edges.
The base of the post is much wider than the finished top. We will be sandblasting and restoring the pieces over the next month.
Large blocks would make for ideal steps and monument stones. All of the stones are dressed with feather and wedge marks.
This will be some of the first restoration work we attempt. Sandblasting will be our first method of cleaning.
These large slabs measuring roughly 3'x3' will make for nice landings or steps. We will be cleaning the edges and surfaces on each stone to restore it to a finished product.
Various pieces help to complete projects and provide stock for splitting and cutting. This is an assortment of foundation stone.
I'll have more pictures of custom granite steps soon!
Thanks again!

All Hands on Deck!
Our first load of Weathered Slabs has been ordered to the Vineyard!
This is a big step for Stone of New England and the work to come is truely exciting.
We will be sure to keep you informed and in tune with some of the great places our stone is going.
This job calls for large pieces no less than 8-10 square feet but as large as 15-20 square feet.
The pieces will be 6"-12" thick and have one flat weathered face and weathered exposed edges.
The skill and craftsmanship of the masons working this stone allows for such large stock.
The stone will be sculpted into place and sized to fit.
I will be selecting the first load this week and photo document the journey our stone will take.
Stay tuned!

It seems more and more people are using our Millyard Granite for fire pits and out door seating areas.
This stone fits into any natural New England landscape.
Millyard granite is sized right for single stacking. The average widths are 16"-20" and thickness ranges from 6"-10". All of the stones have feather and wedge marks from hand splitting.
Our stones can be cut and shaped to size for any project.
Bar stools and benches are also very popular. Single stones can be laid down for seating for 3 or more people. Some stones are 10' and could seat 6.

Schools In Session.
We took every last piece of the Rhode Island Schoolhouse foundation out today.
Our fullest load included two pieces weighing over 400lbs each.
The property didn't permit a machine and everything was done by hand.
We used pry bar, straps, boards and muscles.
There was a sore back or two but nothing a good night of sleep can't fix.
I'll have plenty of pictures up tomorrow.
We just scouted out the New England Elite property and the mud is slowly receding.
Only a few more weeks and we'll carefully reclaim some of the finest New England field stone in central Massachusetts.
Thanks so much!

Hardwick Rounds
Hardwick Rounds have been a popular product for rustic fieldstone veneers amd retaining walls.
This is a full color stone with true blacks to contrast the various other colors.
We are sorting this stone for boulders, veneers and wallstones.
The boulders are great for outlining the property, driveway or water feature.
We will be getting plent of this stone throughout the season.
Place those orders while this stones available.
North Brookfield Farmhouse Salvage
Products are Selling!!!
We've had some great projects come across the table this past week.
The Rhode Island Schoolhouse foundation is on its way to becoming a beautiful set of steps cut into a steep grade in Brookfield.
The design includes a cascading assortment of sizes from 48" at the bottom and 32" at the top.
We'll have pictures once the job is completed.
Another happy customer came to see his newly split Antique Millyard Granite Mailbox post.
We cut a piece of stone 7 feet tall. This stone will be drilled out to the customer specs and a bracket will easily be installed.
We are now quoting hand split fence posts and mailbox posts daily! This is something I'm looking forward to doing more of.
We are sharpening our Trow and Holden chisels and swinging away.
A 4 foot piece of New Ipswich Granite is being used as a boundary marker in Natick. The installer loved the feather and wedge marks. The New Ipswich Granite is some of the nicest material we have in inventory. Our post stock includes over 12 pieces ranging from 5' to 8'.
The Millyard Granite continues to be sold for wall applications and it's a very cost effective product.
One thing we're proud of is how green our products really are. We go looking for the material that needs to be saved. Stone piles lined up to be plowed over is a sad thing. Hand packing, site planning and thoughtful processes leads to a finished product unlike any other.
Build conciously. Build with recylced materials. Build with History. Build with Stone.

New Ideas!
Rhode Island School Foundation
I just salvaged over 150' of granite foundation from a Rhode Island schoolhouse.
This material has a beveled edge along the top side. There are a few corners pieces and the condition of all the material is very good. Small amounts of concrete from other masonry veneer is in the process of being removed.
This is an excellent choice for a granite foundation under a brick or stone veneer. I am also cutting this material for fireplace surrounds, lintels, and window details.
Please contact me if you are interested in specific sizes.
Stay tuned for an iron salvage that has yielded some very interesting pieces!
Thanks. The Team @ Stone of New England.
